This poem was written about a character in Jane Smiley’s incredible novel, The Greenlanders. I got the idea to write this when one of my good friends told me that whenever he read about the character of Margret in Smiley’s novel, he thought of me. Which was funny! And interesting! So I decided to inhabit Margret for a brief time and put myself in Greenland in the summer all those centuries ago.
